Review – MAC Lustreglass in Decorative

Retail Price: $14.00

Overview

I was in Macy’s not too long ago and decided to make a stop at the MAC counter. I was looking for the perfect lipgloss for the fall. Many holiday parties are coming up, so I wanted something that would go well with the season. After glancing at the selection, I decided to try their Lustreglass in Decorative. Not only does the name fit the holiday theme, but the color seemed perfect. I was excited about my new purchase and tried it on the moment I went home. The first thing I noticed about MAC Lustreglass in Decorative is the lack of color payoff. In the tube, the color appears to be a rich, vibrant burgandy pigment. But once applied, it comes off as more of a light mauve tone. Definitely not what I was expecting. Also, the color did not last very long. After about an hour, most of the color had faded. I still had a shine to my lips, but no color.

Application

The formula glides on the lips very smoothly. It comes with a brush applicator which picks up just the right amount of product but makes the application a bit longer than usual. Because the brush is not very firm, the tip can glide all over the place so you definitely have to take your time with this type of brush if you want a precise application.

Worth the price?

Overall, I’d say no. Although the formula applies very smoothly, it doesn’t seem to last longer than an hour. The brush applicator makes application time consuming. I would not recommend this product to anyone who wants a quick, easy lip application.

This product can be purchased at www.maccosmetics.com, MAC stores, and MAC counters.

Hey Shanna. I hope you forgive me for not reading your blog. I’m simply a member of the male species. I have confidence that it will be an interesting blog for people who have practical uses for makeup though. I do have one suggestion: you might want to give products an overall rating, maybe using a star system. That’s always nice.

Great idea! Thanks, Kev!

I like Mac products but i think they’re overpriced. I tend to stay away from lip glosses, but i do like Mac’s lip glass to cover my lipstick...

Nice to see what it looks on as compared to the tube. It’s always hard w/ lip color!

I agree!

I really like your idea for this blog. I always buy my cosmetics from Sephora or Aveda’s online stores, and I rely heavily on product reviews. At Sephora.com, products are reviewed on multiple levels, so maybe you could consider doing that too.

I agree with Courtney, I really like how you set up your first blog, with the pictures of the lipgloss & the picture of how it really looks when applied. Mac is way overpriced, and I totally have been in the same situation where the color is not the same as it looks on the tube (I’m a lipgloss ADDICT), it’s so weird how that happens that way, it’s actually frustrating, because you thought the color that you saw on the outside was perfect, but when you put it on, it wasn’t at all, let alone, it didn’t even really stay on for an hour.

  • Kathleen Gilligan: I love the smell of cocoa butter :) For $4-5 this looks like a good deal.
  • Courtney Preston: Totally agree! I bought it over the summer in a kit with shadow and liner and I was so pleasantly surprised. I have short eye lashes, so length is imp
  • laffytaffy: I looove makeup, so this is really hard. I really like Buxom's mascara. I love MAC's liquid eyeliner, all of their shadows, especially the purple one
